help me, Simple question-if I want to show values on the X axis, and show data/name/legend on the Y axis, then the line chart is vertical, not horizontal..

Harvas, were you referring to my post?

If so, no, that would be my first post, nor was I actually responding (in my last post) to your solution (which I hadn't noticed at that point). I was referring to pgc01's solution so sorry about the confusion.

Jobowo, yes I was. I must apologize for the confusion as well. I'll strive to better link my references to earlier post to avoid future confusion.

Any insight on easily implementing step 4 in pgc01's scatter chart solution? Again, I could easily recreate everything except that step in Excel.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Harvas

I understand the link confusion as it can get quite tangled.

I'm going to stop posting here until I get the time to research my posts more carefully. I've now (prompted by pgc01, who often comes up with something nobody else has thought of) thought of a couple of ways to get this done.

- The crudest way is to eliminate the axis labels and insert a text box. Not a particularly good solution here as it's inelegant, doesn't link to the sheet, and needs fiddly work to align the labels properly. But might be a solution if you have something like graphics labels you want to insert.

- Second option is to paste a new series onto the chart with C11... as the axis labels and then chart this as a bar chart. You may have to then switch the Y axis from right to left and eliminate the data points (color them white or transparent).

- I went over to Jon Peltier's site and didn't search, I just looked. And you'll see that Jon is routinely using these techniques to custom label his Y axis, and he uses dot plots to achieve this.

- I also found what seems to be a free download at http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm, for what might be an add-in. I haven't looked at this but it may be of interest here.
