how do you modify the subject of a message already on the bo

This is *not* entirely true. Not only If and only If the author can change it. Moderators and Administrators are allowed to do this, as well, as editing, locking and deleting posts.

Um....Mark?

You can delete those "edited by" lines, you know. Well, except for one, but anything you edit after you've already edited it has that at the very bottom of the post.

I've edited stuff like 4 times just to fix little typos, and I just erase them each time since they can start to take up so much room.

Whatever you want to do, though!

Re von pookie's a while back - would it not be better if editing did push it to the front again? Primarily because when scanning for those posts with no answers, if a poster has replied to herself to push it to the top, it looks as though it has been answered and then it gets left.

Sorry if this isn't clear.

I think I have to disagree on that one. It's called the "edit" function because that's all it's supposed to be used for, really. Fixing typos, rewording, stuff like that.

New posts to the thread bump it back up precisely because they're new.

Besides, just because something has one reply doesn't mean it's been answered. It could be a question of clarification, or, yes, the poster themself bumping it back up to the top. With either case, on the main forum page which lists the number of replys, there is a column stating who made the last post to that topic.

Just my opinion on the matter, however
