"horizontal" criteria? NULL value?

Hello,

I use DSUM, etc a lot, which require a criteria range. Often I want to be able to copy such a formula down a column, that refers to values in cells in the same row as the formula.

But, it seems that the criteria range must be "column-wise".

Does anyone know if it possible to specify a "row-wise" criteria range?

Also, does anyone know how to set a cell to NULL, not zero or blank but actually nothing?

Regards,

Geoff.

Excel Facts

Save Often
If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
My data (using DSUM) consists of 3 worksheets. A data table (derived from a comma delimited text file import), a criteria sheet, and the final report where I need to report the DSUM values. Using DSUM, the criteria sheet needs criteria to calculate over 1200 cells on the finished sheet. Needless to say, processing all these formulas is a little slow, so I was hoping for an alternate to DSUM. File size was also an issue.

Anyways, my data sheet consists of 3 columns:

Part Number Ship Date Quantity Shipped

The name of the data range in this sheet is "Shipped"

What I need to do is add up the quantity shipped for data with the same part platform and ship date, then post this to a cell on the final report.

Examples of part platform: 5JE18 = platform
5JE181L8 = part under platform

The final report contains the dates I need, and the part platform numbers.
Part platform numbers are from A1:AJ1. Dates are from A2:A33. Unfortunatley, the layout for the final report IS set in stone (my boss likes it that way). Is this enough info? Let me know what else you need. :help:

Dave

PS: I'm using Excel 2002
