Hi I am working a spreadsheet that is like a bank statement.
Three columns "IN" "OUT" "Balance.
I have figured out how to hide the balance if nothing is in one column, but if something is in one column and not the other it still hides it

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I have attached a print screen. We use to be able to attache our excel file. Is this no longer available?

Get help while writing formula
Click the italics "fx" icon to the left of the formula bar to open the Functions Arguments dialog. Help is displayed for each argument.
Assuming you mean a regular formula and not conditional formatting:

To show nothing unless both A2 and B2 have a value
=IF(OR(ISBLANK(A2),ISBLANK(B2)),"", {your formula})

To show a calculation result if either A2 or B2 has a value
=IF(AND(ISBLANK(A2),ISBLANK(B2)),"", {your formula})

Note the difference is the use of AND/OR.
AND looks for both conditions to be true (explanation - both A2 and B2 must be blank to hide the formula).
OR looks for either condition to be true.
