I'm sure this has been spotted before but I couldn't find anything under search.

Ok, so I was trying to populate a worksheet with some data.

I type Q1 into A1 and try to drag it down - it only gets to Q4 and then starts repeating itself!!

It doesn't happen with any other letter. What's all that about?

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
It assumes that Q1 = Quarter 1, as used in financial analyses.

being an accountant, you would think I might have spotted that.
I was getting so hung up on the fact that it was only one letter wrong that I couldn't see the wood for the trees.

thanks!

I'm going to hijack this thread:

something else odd, if I type into a cell with Arial font size 10 applied, but then decide I need to type the last few letters in red, I change the font color by clicking on the font button, and automatically my font size is reduced to 8.5?! What's going on there?

EDIT: correction. Only happens in one of my workbooks. I shall investigate some more.

No worries. I guess you're still in shock from the apparent theft of your afro. ;)

Sounds like witchcraft to me. I can't reproduce it here (XL2003)

The plot thickens: only does it in one workbook on existing sheets but not on wholly new sheets added to the workbook via Insert>Worksheet. Actually, there's something not right about the workbook as a whole, as if I try and copy an existing sheet I get the following error:

"Path/File access error: '\VB43.tmp'"

whatever the heck that means (it doesn't copy the sheet). Think I will go and recreate this spreadsheet sometime soon...

Do you have your MyDocuments folder redirected to a network drive by any chance?
