I am running excel version 11 on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.4.11. Any time I open the help window it stays open obscuring part of the desktop. I have not been able to find any mechanism to close the help window. The only way to close the help window is to shut down the app and restart it. I need some ideas on how to correct this.

Thanks

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
So you can't see the close button on the top left at all?

Nope. It does not show. It is obscured under the very top menu bar. I can only expand the help window from the bottom right. It seems to be anchored in the top left of the screen. Very annoying for sure. Thanks for taking a look!

Does Command+W not close the window? (I'm still trying to locate a way of moving it down with the keyboard)

What OS are you running. DO you have Expose' Running.
If so activate the screen postioning, My MacBookPro has it set to F8.
With that open it should allow you to drag the help box into another screen which should allow you to postion it lower and adjust its size.
