Thanks Dennis!

I appreciate the support.

I had a feeling your name might pop up in this thread!

take it easy,
Corticus

It is good to have someone from Microsoft Tech Support hanging around here.

Simple fact....I had a major problem with an application and going through things on that list solved the problem.

I think it is valuable stuff, the list saved my butt one day, hence it is in the HOF!

Bill

Oh it's definately a Hall of Fame worthy list. No denying that.

I question giving MarkHenri the credit when it's been on the KB for awhile. He just copied a paraphrased version onto the post.

Thanks for replying, though, Mr.Excel!

I feel quite honored!

You have the greatest board in the world and my comment should in no way be misconstrued as critical of you or this site. More so of Mark pawning of kb articles as his own.

blessings,

Corticus,

I don´t post messages to provocate - I do it to get things done and in a right way.
As we say "Quality goes never out of style"

Bill,
I will not argue with You about the choice You have made.

Instead of rewarding excellent solution I would suggest that people who put som extra efforts in a thread should be rewarded.

Following scenario is trying to explain it. the "A" is one person who is determened to help the OP no matter what.

Q: How do I....
A: Can You.....
Q: ....
A: ....
Q: ....
A: ....
Q: Unfortunately I dont get it to work.
A: ...
Q: ...
A: ...
Q: Yes! It works

I believe that we all will benefit from this.

My 2c-opinion.

Kind regards,
Dennis

This guy must have some major connections 'round here or somethin...

Howdy Corticus. Not to my knowledge... I was one of a few that actually mentioned that the thread should be in the tip section.

I read the MS article, it actually didn't mention the big pointer, #10, which has implications far beyond starting Excel. This compatability issue will be detrimental to udf, routine & volatile worksheet function performance (like stand-still). Also, just plain interesting in its own right.

Perhaps that helps explain...

Thanks Nate,

That does explain it better. I'm still surprised that with all the great posts we have from our MVPs, MarkHenri's #10 made it. Knowledge being the top priority, however, this tip is important, and I'm not a judge or anything, so I won't interject my opinion regarding something overwhich I neither have, nor want, control. Thanks for explaining it better and not ripping my head off!

regards,

I need to throw in my tuppence worth here for two reasons:

1. I want to
2. I like saying tuppence, it's one of those words that just feels right. ("ananas" is another in case you're wondering)

It's late at night so I'm not checking my facts. Isn't there a disclaimer in the HOF page saying something like credit where credit is due. If it turns out that someone else actually authored a tip or solution then the credit would be changed.

And to play Devil's Advocate, didn't Mark Henri once state that he can submit articles for the MSKB? He just needs a lot of approvals or something. In fact, if I recall correctly, he mentioned that in the thread BJ mentioned in the HOF forum.

PS. Dennis I loved the capitalised "Y"'s when refering to the Creator. I don't know if this was intentional or not. I found it amusing.

EDIT:: Whilst attempting to check my facts and see what #10 was, I realised an amusing situation.

Bill starts the article spouting the MS support propaganda (two free calls etc etc) before going through the checklist. Point #12 states that the support tech will hand it off to a higher power if they can't help. So isn't it a bit redundant to go through steps 1-11 then call MS who will just go through steps 1-11 again. I think it would be more useful if point #12 had the phone number and email address of the genius who was going to get the problem handed to them. (and why isn't that person manning the phones if they're so great) I'm going to take my tongue out of my cheek though before this post becomes too ridiculous.

I just wanted to add that I am SOOOO sick of MS people telling me about my 2 free calls. As strange as it may seem, I use XL at work(crazy, I know), and we have an office wide liscense(I believe through Gifts-In-Kind, a non-profit org like myself), and I DON'T GET TWO FREE CALLS. A solution should be a solution for everybody. Telling you to call MS is not a solution, its an advertisement. Let's call a spade a spade here.

And I did always wonder why XL-Dennis capitalized You...

And, I must admit, I enjoy these lively debates, so please don't take what I say too personally!

Oh, and I totally agree with Dennis's little example of a helpful poster. Let me immitate a MS post:

Q: I have this complicated problem and where I am trying to .....How can I do this?
A: Use a macro. Call MS for your 2 free support sessions!

Actually, this isn't really an imitation:

Okay, enough ranting for now...

peace,
Corticus
