Gridlines Missing from Screenshots

A space *should* do the same thing. It's a display issue with browsers and blank table cells. Put anything in the cell and it displays correctly (bordes etc) -- leave it blank and you may get the osrt of problems you mention.
I have built a few table makers for HTML and tend to script the insertion of a non-breaking space character hwerever I find a blank cell.

I figured any character would do so I chose the underscore. That way, if you copy the exhibit you'll be able to see the undersores when you highlight the exhibit.

We are all too familiar with problems caused by unseen whitespace characters! :oops:
 
True, the underscore is visible and that is an advantage. I mentioned the non-breaking space because that has been the HTML standard (at least in practice) for quite a while.
