'Ghost Macro' in list but not in editor

Hi all,
I've got a problem I couldn't find a solution for browsing numerous forums....

Macros are showing up in my Macro list (I mean the normal Macro dialog box); however, there's no trace of them in the VBA editor?!
Neither in the worksheets nor in any Modules, UserForms or else. I can't delete the Macros from the list or edit them.
I can trace some of the Macros back to a file that my workbook links into, but even changing this source book from .xlsm to .xlsx or deleting these sheets won't remove them?! (...I'm using Excel 2010)

Any idea what I'm fighting here and how best to attack?!
Thanks a lot!

If I PM you an email address, can you send it to me? I'm intrigued now. :)

And the start up folder, have you just migrated to office2010 ??

Got your file but there are no macros listed in it.

Got your file but there are no macros listed in it.

Very ominous indeed... have sent over some screenshoots of my macro list showing these 'ghost macros' and proving (hopefully) that I'm not going insane...

It was my mistake - looking at wrong instance of Excel (where I also happened to have a Book1.xlsm file open!)

In your file:
On the formulas tab, open Name Manager.
Change the Filter to Names With Errors
Select the first name, then shift click the last to select them all, then press Delete.
Save and close the file, then reopen it and the macros should be gone.

I think what you had were some old XLM macros that had since been deleted (which is why you couldn't edit them) but the names were never cleared out.

Unfortunately I get a "Reference is not valid" box when I try to run, step into or edit ...

THANK YOU, that solved it! legendary...

It's gonna take a while to delete all the rubbish from the original file (as it's an old piece of work that went through a great many hands already) but it's more than worth it.

Thanks Rory and everyone else who spent time on this!!!
