'Ghost Macro' in list but not in editor

Hi all,
I've got a problem I couldn't find a solution for browsing numerous forums....

Macros are showing up in my Macro list (I mean the normal Macro dialog box); however, there's no trace of them in the VBA editor?!
Neither in the worksheets nor in any Modules, UserForms or else. I can't delete the Macros from the list or edit them.
I can trace some of the Macros back to a file that my workbook links into, but even changing this source book from .xlsm to .xlsx or deleting these sheets won't remove them?! (...I'm using Excel 2010)

Any idea what I'm fighting here and how best to attack?!
Thanks a lot!

Good thought, but there are no Personal Macros Books available it could hide in...

In th emacro dialog, what options do you have for "Macros In"? Have you traced which workbook Excel thinks the macros are located in?

I know the workbook that "thinks" it has these Ghost Macros (let's call it Book1) and I know the workbook that "infected" Book1 (Book2).

Only available "Macros In" options are 'All Open workbooks', 'This Workbook', 'Book1' and (if open) 'Book2'...

When I highlight one of them I get the options 'Run', 'Step Into', 'Edit' and 'Options'. Trying to click either of the first 3 triggers a "Reference not valid" box. On 'Options' I get the info that it got recorded in 1999 (!).

Unfortunately I don't even get the 'Delete' option...

Just checked all sheets and modules and there's no hidden macro far south..

Might it be that today's VBA Editor can't cope with Macros from as far back as 1999?
