So the data is above: I need excel to return an average for Tim on the 2nd day of 0% and on the 4th day of 6% as he worked three days so the 18% + 0% +0% / 3 =6%

My current formula is:
=IF(ISERROR(AVERAGE(Summary!A2:A5)),"",IF(AVERAGE(Summary!A2:A5)=0,"0%",IF(AVERAGE(Summary!A2:A5)<=0.01,"<1%",AVERAGE(Summary!A2:A5))))

Should I be doing SUM(Summary!A2:A5/COUNTA(Summary!A2:A5) or something like that?

Also, there is an agent that has a value of <1% for two consecutive days. How do I get excel to return "<1%" as an average?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Tara

=IF(ISERROR(AVERAGE(Summary!C2:C5)),"",IF(AVERAGE(Summary!C2:C5)=0,"0%",IF(AVERAGE(Summary!C2:C5)<=0.01,"<1%",AVERAGE(Summary!C2:C5))))

Summary!C2 = 1st Sheet in July
Summary!C3 = 2nd Sheet in July
Summary!C4 = 3rd Sheet in July
Summary!C5 = 4th Sheet in July

So for Tim it shows
C2 = 0%
C3 = 0%
C4 =
C5 = 18%

If I use the =AVERAGE(C2:C5) inside the summary sheet it still returns 18%

If I use =SUM(C2:C5)/COUNTA(C2:C5) inside the summary sheet, which technically should return a 6%, instead excel is returning a 4.5% (including the blank cell as a 0)

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Hiya Richard,

I just figured it out. The figures in the Summary sheet were in % format. When I changed it to two decimal # format it calculates it correctly!

Thanks for all your help. If you have any ideas about the <1% please let me know!

It shouldn't have made much of a difference what format the cells were in, but glad you sorted it.
You should be able to use your current formula in the IF statement I posted earlier to give the "<1%" bit.

If it's not one thing it's another...

Now it won't show the value as a % in the monthly error column but in the # format! Any way around this?

so this is only true if the value is 0. If the value is greater than 0 it's returning it in % format...

It's formatted to be in % And now it's actually reverted the calculation for Tim to 9% and not 6% I have no clue what is going on?

This is freaking bizarre!

I shut my workbook down not saving any changes, re-opened it and it's calculating correctly for everything!

I'm so confused but grateful it's working.
