Simple code to transfer a string number to a number as long is not working.

Code:
Dim v as long
v= val("12")

Thanks Rorya, Norie

Did found the reason of the nonfunctional "VAL"

Somewhere in my code, I had define a variable

Code:
Public Val as Integer
That was the source of the problem
Strange that the name Val for a variable as been accepted by Excel, but now I understand why....

Excel Facts

Waterfall charts in Excel?
Office 365 customers have access to Waterfall charts since late 2016. They were added to Excel 2019.
^^ Making a mental note to remember that. I've seen that before and forgot conflicting variable identifiers is another reason for this kind of thing to occur. Good detective work.
