Formula doesn't display value (this has happened before)

Hi,

I created a formula/reference to another worksheet. The problem is that instead of displaying the value of the reference it displays the text of the formula. How can I fix this? This has happened before.

A1 = Sheet1!B4

where

Sheet1!B4 = "Animal"

It does not display "Animal" in cell A1 it displays the formula "Sheet1!B4".

Make sure you don't have the cell with the formula in formatted as Text.

OK I got it, it was formatted to text.

Right click on the cell and choose Format Cells from the menu. Then go to the left-most tab of the window that appears and highlight either General or Number as the type of number format. Click OK and the formula should work.
