It works great!!

Would it be possible for you to briefly explain the formula to me so I can understand it,.

Alan
=IFERROR(LOOKUP(2,1/(B3:F3<>0),B3:F3),"")

If there are no numbers in the range at all or, if there are no non-zero numbers then the LOOKUP function will return an error.

We use the IFERROR function to "trap" that error and in its place the formula will return a blank "".

Here's your data in the range B3:F3

10.6 ... 10.4 ... 9.4 ... 9.8 ... 0

Return the last (rightmost) non-zero number in the range.

=9.8

Here's how we get there...

This expression will return an array of either TRUE or FALSE:

(B3:F3<>0)

B3 <> 0 =TRUE
C3 <> 0 =TRUE
D3 <> 0 =TRUE
E3 <> 0 =TRUE
F3 <> 0 = FALSE

We then use the divison operation to coerce those logical values to numbers:

B3 = 1 / TRUE = 1
C3 = 1 / TRUE = 1
D3 = 1 / TRUE = 1
E3 = 1 / TRUE = 1
F3 = 1 / FALSE = #DIV/0!

At this point the formula looks like this:

LOOKUP(2,{1;1;1;1,#DIV/0!),B3:F3)

The way that LOOKUP works is if the lookup_value is greater than all the
values in the lookup_vector it will match the *last* value in the lookup_vector that is less than the lookup_value. The *last* value in the lookup_vector that is less than the lookup_value is the 4th 1. The #DIV/0! error is ignored. We use a lookup_value of 2 because we know that the result of this expression:

1/(B3:F3<>0)

will not return a value greater than 1.

This is how that would look:

B3...1...10.6
C3...1...10.4
D3...1...9.4
E3...1...9.8
F3...#DIV/0!...0

The last number in the lookup vector that is less than 2 is the last 1 that corresponds to cell E3.

So, the formula returns the result from cell E3:

=IFERROR(LOOKUP(2,1/(B3:F3<>0),B3:F3),"")

=9.8

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
An OFFSET(COUNTA) would work also. Probably more complicated than the other responses but great for using in Name Manager when needing ranges to be dynamic.
