hi all
i am currently in a bit of a rut here  , first i will explain what i am doing:
i am doing a scoring prgram for a rallysprint which i need to get two of the fastest times out of three different times.
For Example:
in mins & secs
2.32, 3.10, 2.20 therefore fastest time = 4.52

i want to be able to get the two lower times to get a total for the fastest times out of 3
Any help would be greatly appreciated
i've looked around but cant seem to find anything remotely close to this, maybe i am just not looking in the right spot!
Cheers
Matt

Thank you for replying so fast! Sorry. To confuse you... The relevance of 'not adjacent' was that some of the answers I read above used things such as A2:H2 rather than A2,D2,F2. Also, I was unable to format the numbers as times without the Text function and found that advice on another forum which has definitely complicated things. Are you saying that I can format numbers in that way?!

Sure: Ctrl+1 (that's a shortcut to Format Cells), click the Number tab, select Custom, and paste h:mm:ss in the Type box.

Am hoping to get some advice here! I'd like to auto calculate which lanes the fastest teams go into for the finals from their heats - eg: fastest = lane 3, 2nd fastest = lane 2, 3rd fastest = lane 4 etc. Seven teams - each have two heats. Fastest four teams go into Final A, slowest three go into Final B. I've worked out how to auto calculate finishing places in the heats by their times, but have no idea how to take it to the next level! Thanks in advance :)

Welcome to the MrExcel board!

Might be best if you give us some more detail about what you have in your sheet, where and exactly what you need. If you'd like to show us a small sample of both what you start with and what the results should look like then see my signature block below for how to do that directly in your post so that we can copy/paste that sample to our own sheets to test with.
