hi all

just wondering what formula i can use to extract data from cell A1 "21" only?

A1 = 21/02/2018
A2 = 7/2/2018

I have a large list of dates, but I just require the first part i.e. 21 in this case. You will notice, some numbers are two digits long, others are not.

pls help?!

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
It depends on if these entries are valid date entries, or are actually text.

If they are real, valid date entries, it looks like you just want the DAY portion of the date, so this would work:
Code:
=DAY(A1)

If they are text entries, you want everything before the first slash, so this should work:
Code:
=LEFT(A1,FIND("/",A1)-1)
