Extra Cells Getting Selected Upon Left Click

Intermittently, when working in Excel, I will click on a cell, but multiple cells in the column will get selected. The "extra" cells selected are always vertical and below the intended cell. I have no idea why this happens, or how to stop it, it seems to correct itself after awhile. To say it is extremely frustrating is an understatement!

Has anyone else encountered this issue and know how to prevent it in the future?

Thank you,

Renee

I have had this same problem before as well. I agree, it is very annoying. Thinking about it, I haven't had that problem on this computer, but it happened fairly often on another computer. I can't help want to blame the mouse in that instance as it had other issues, but I could be wrong. I'm trying to remember how I got it to stop doing it, I think I either clicked both buttons a couple times or maybe hit Ctrl.

Maybe the "Extend" functionality is enabled. Try pressing F8 and see if that sorts it out.

I have changed the batteries in the wireless mouse several times, no difference in the level of occurrence. I think it must be the computer.

Thank you!

The mouse I had was a corded mouse, so my thought was that it was a mouse functionality issue. I'll have to bring that mouse in with me to work and see if I can reproduce the problem on a different computer.
