Hello,

I hope you can help me with an issue two colleagues of mine have experienced: they opened a xls file and a 50,000 amount appeared as 50 for both of them. Even when clicking on the cell, the amount was shown as 50 in the bar on the top.

The amount appeared correctly for me, so I guess this is a setting issue.

Any ideas? We are all using Excel 2016.

Thanks.

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
I expect that you're right, and that it is a settings issue. In the USA — as you probably are already set to expect — the comma separates thousands. However, in Europe, the comma functions as a decimal point, so "50,000" would be exactly "50".

In Windows 10, check Control Panel / Region / Additional Settings to see how the numbers are formatted for your system.
