Help! I have a running budget spreadsheet that goes back for 2 years. Yesterday I used it and saved it. Today I went to add some info and it won't let me save it. How do I get it to save again???

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
Do you get a message?

Try Save As which should allow you to save the workbook under a different name

The only message I would get is when I would close the spreadsheet, it would ask if I wanted to save it before closing it. But it still would not let me save it that way either. I had it saved to a flash drive. So I ejected the flash drive and plugged it back in and opened it and now it lets me save again. Thank God! Whew! I don’t know if it needed to reset itself or something, but I’m glad it’s working now!

You might want to work off the hard drive, rather than off removable media.

You pretty much told us why. Funny things happen with removable media. They get removed, or Windows thinks they got removed, or whatever.

Copy the file from the thumb drive to your Downloads folder, work on it, then copy it back. That's what I often do.

Now for files I need quick access to on different computers, I save them in Dropbox. I have the Dropbox folder installed that syncs the files on each computer's hard drive, and this syncing is pretty quick, so by the time I walk across the office to another computer and sit down, the file is up to date.
