Excel : Reference : Object Model explained ?!?

Hi there,

Im trying to develop some Add-In for Excel (+ PPT) however, I often cannot understand the meaning / purpose of some of the object model methods and properties. Searching for the right method / properties really discourages me.

Do you know any reference which explains the purpose and the visual representation of the object model methods / properties ?

Why there are so many features of Excel which are doable over the mouse interface, are not possible to be done via programming?

There aren't, in my experience, that many features that you can access via the UI that you cannot via code. Most of those that are not accessible don't really make a lot of sense to do in code anyway.

Thanks for answering the second question. Although, I do experience often such features (especially when you try to take control over charts and their data).

I cannot find any methods, which allow the selection of Excel Datasheets areas, so that it looks like this(with the color lines and dotes on the corner of the selections) ? :
