Excel file does not update when I change a formula

Hi,

Recently I experienced the following behavior in a few of my Excel files:

The file may have a simple expression, let's say concatenating columns from a pivot table into another column outside of the pivot table.
If I change the expression, the displayed result is from the old expression. For example, if pivot table is

Orange,Pear,Apple

and the expression is use is a1&b1&c1 I get the following result

OrangePearApple

However, if I change the expression to C1&A1&B1

instead of

AppleOrangePear

I get the initial result OrangePearApple

It seems Excel will not display the correct result unless I close and reopen the file. CAn anyone tell me if the only fix for this is to reinstall Excel. FYI I'm using Excel 2010 with the Power Query add-in.

Can Excel fill bagel flavors?
You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
bottom left of the application, does it say calculate ?

mole999- Thank you for the reply. Actually, I think I found the problem. When I closed and reopened the file the expected calculation appeared. I did a little testing (created new files, opened existing files, added table or pivot table, created calculated columns) and could recreate the problem sporadically only on my machine with certain files. I've assumed something is corrupt with my Excel installation. I have an opportunity to upgrade to Excel 2013 and I'm going to try that.
