Excel 2010 - "smoothed line" in Radar charts changed??

Hello all.

I've upgraded to Office 2010 and have noticed that there seems to be a difference in the way that radar charts are handled since Excel 2007. I have long used the radar charts to show smoothed lines around the radar. I've done this by formatting the line properties for the series and checking the "smoothed line" option.

Now in 2010 I can no longer see the "smoothed line" option in radar charts.

Has anyone else noticed this? Was this a conscious decision by Microsoft?

Any advice gratefully received as I need this functionality.

OK so I wondered if this was an oversight by Microsoft but it appears that it is a conscious decision.

I recorded a macro in Excel 2007 and set the "Smoothed Line" property on in the line properties for the radar chart. The macro produced the following code:

    ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Select
    ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).Smooth - True

I then transferred this to Excel 2010 and I get the following message.

Run-time error 1004
This property is not valid for the current chart type

Can anyone else confirm that this property has been removed for radar charts in Excel 2010?

Is it possible to get "Smoothed Line" radar charts in Excel 2010?

I realize this is over a year old but I've noticed this as well.


It appears that Microsoft removed the smoothed line option for radar charts in Excel 2010.


Or is there something I'm missing?


I like to chart profiles of measurements taken on round parts and the smoothed line works a little bit like a poor man's interpolator.


I suppose you could format an X-Y chart to look like and function as a radar chart but that seems like a lot of work.
