Hi folks,

I am running:

Microsoft Excel 2010
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 32-Bit

---

I have just migrated to a new machine, with a fresh copy of windows and office, and the identical problem from the previous machine remains, so please help!

---

At random points several different spreadsheets hang, crash and freeze up Excel on a consistent daily basis.

I have checked that:

  • It's not an old sheet, still happens with brand new sheets
  • I've disabled protected view options
  • I've saved files in a different location (local/network)
  • I've altered filenames
  • I've disabled all Macros

This is really infuriating now because, as far as I can tell this is an out and out bug in Excel 2010.

It is frequently on clicking 'Save As' or just 'Save' in general, be we saving it as .xlsx, a template or .pdf.

So please help, here is the log from Event Viewer:

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
The default printer trick seems to have worked.

So the HP Officejet 5400 only has a built in driver for Windows 7, HP do not offer another one on their website.

So I set default printer to M$ XPS Viewer, and will leave it so until we can buy a new printer which has an official HP driver for W7.

Bit of a cop out from M$/HP but at least we know what is wrong now.

Thanks for the help.

Excel and HP have a long history of driver problems (I always used to use Laserjet IV drivers regardless of what the actual laserjet model was as they seemed most stable). Latest versions of Excel do seem to be incredibly sensitive about printer drivers.
