hi guys, just got a copy of this book, by wrox, is this the book you all are talking about, big red dictionary size, lol.
i have red the first first chapters, but i find it hard to know where to start to learn the stuff.
can you guys suggest why it would be better to use vba instead of the actuall formulas that excel provides. so far apart from setup of the excel sheet i can't find a tool that would do this.
also i am trying out the macro recorder and i find it hard to make what it gives back better. for example i seet up a sort query so that it sort 20 adjacent tables one after the other. but the macro is longer than the book hehe

any ideas

Hi there taz23340,

Excel 2002 VBA is written by John Green, Stephen Bullen, Rob Bovey and Robert Rosenberg. It is not published by Holy Macro! books. MrExcel does not (I believe) have any professional affiliation with this writing. Stephen Bullen, Rob Bovey and Josh Green have another book coming out Professional Excel Development.

The new book by Bill Jelen (aka MrExcel) and Tracy Syrstad (aka Starl) is entitled VBA and Macros for Microsoft Excel. This is an excellent book for the beginner to Intermediate VBA programmer.

I myself have not read Excel 2002 VBA, but picked it up going through Barnes & Nobles (as I do many books), and it appears to be one of the most complete (if not THE most complete) VBA books I've ever seen. I would suggest reading the ENTIRE BOOK. And then reading it all over again. You will have a much better understanding of VBA programming and it's concepts.

And fyi, the macro recorder is great for simple and small macros. Large macros do not go well with them, imho.

Excel 2002 VBA is *not* a good book to learn VBA in my opinion. It's an advanced book, as well as the Professional Excel Development. MrExcel's books or J-Walk's are much better for the begginer (again, IMO...)

thanks guys, i am going to start off fresh with mr excels book that he is sending by email and then take a look at something deeper.

? about that email we are getting for some reason i cannot open it, it asks me to downlaod the zip then i unzip it and it can't seem to read it, i always see it in html.

any ideas

hello again,
i am in canada and have tried going to the computer book stores here. do any of you know if mrexcel's book is available in canada?

also which one am i looking for, is it the holy macro's one? or another?

also mrexcel, the book i am registered to and receiving by email will that include vba?

what i want is a full book of everything excel has to offer, the formula tips, the pictures, i am very visual and the help on vba code. it would help if the vba code help would be in real world examples and not suggestions where the are general. the vba 2002 for excel is very general in its suggetions, imho.

thanks in advance
taz

MrExcel has several books available - which one are you looking for?
I can't tell you in Canada to look - but in the US, Barnes & Noble carries a lot of them. And then, of course, there's always online ordering.

i was looking for a complete book with real world examples on excel and vba, meaning the formula's and the programming.

thanks

One book containing complete information on both? That book would be too big to carry! You'll have more luck with separate books. I think Walkenbach has a formula book out, but don't know anything about it. As for VBA - that depends on your level and the type of tone you like in your books. VBA and Macros for MSExcel is for beginners/intermediate, has a conversational tone and at least one example per chapter, based on a real-life situation, which is explained, in some cases, the usual solution given (if there is one) and the VBA alternative.

vba i would be a beginner, formulas i would be advanced.
so i will take a look at that vba and macras for msexcel,
one ? is this a new book or very old, there should be one for office xp right?
will check the bookstore here, thanks
