I just have a general problem i am trying to simplify my spreadsheet by making corresponding rectangles lets say cell A1 contains two values one a high and one a low (11,12) is it possible for me to average these two numbers and have that average in C1. To continue then B1 would be (15,16). And i would want D1 to be the average of these numbers.
A2 would be (11,22) and I want C2 to be the average of these two. It may be something simple but i have become completely dumbfounded by it thanks

Thank you very much you guys are like genuises or something at first i realized it was showing up as a thousands number so I inserted a space which made the command work as a general but then when i converted to text format it didnt matter whether there was a space or not but thank you so much for all your help

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
No thanks, you're welcome.

But can you please use different sentences: this will make your posts readable.

Thanks.

Now i have developed another question. I have developed essentially a

table of averages. No i was wondering how you would add them and find

the average of them. Lets say L11-14 M11-14 N11-14 and O11-14 how

would i go about taking these and adding them and finding the average in

one single cell.

Put:

=AVERAGE(L11:O14)

in a different cell.

Try
=AVERAGE(L11:O14)

However, the Average of the Averages is not necessarily the same of the Average as a whole...

If each individual average has the same count (each is averaging 2 numbers), then this approach is fine.

But if some are averaging 2 numbers, while others are averaging 3 or more, then the average of the averages will not be accurate..

Hope that helps.

Say I was to write two numbers in a cell trying to multiple them such as 14ft*2ft is it possible to develop a command to develop the product of these two numbers within the next cell without putting them in individual cells

Very important is, why do you have different numbers in one cell?

Excel 2003 has 65536 rows and 256 columns in 1 sheet.
Excel 2007, 2010 have over 1 million rows and over 16000 columns in 1 sheet.

It would be MUCH better and easier to store different numbers in different cells.

I understand that I am have a large quatity of information and i am trying to format it to take up the least possible space so it is easily presentable
essentially one cell is gonna say Area the next will be the two values say 14ft*2ft and the next will be the product of the one before because i only have three cells of information before my tables start

Considering the ability in Excel to adjust the width of columns...

The same amount of visible space is occupied whether the numbers are entered together in 1 cell, or split into 2..

oh ok i see what your saying your saying insert a small column in between

to split the numbers ok well say i put 14 in b1 and 2 in c1 is there anyway

i can get an equal to sign to appear before the number in d1 which would

be the product of B1 and C1 to express that they were multiplied or can i

put a multiplication symbol in the cells to show that they are being

multiplied

Essentially explain to me how you would portray Area- 14ft*2ft=28ft that

way it is seen they are being multiplied and not just as numbers in a cell
