Hi Folks - Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this.

I am trying to create a drop down list from a large range of data with lots of duplicates.

Is there a clever way of doing this without having to first extract a unique list using a unique filter formula?

This is what I am trying as the List data, but I keep getting this error message?

Excel Facts

Back into an answer in Excel
Use Data, What-If Analysis, Goal Seek to find the correct input cell value to reach a desired result
Create a name which contains this what you entered in Source of Data Validation.

So:
Ctrl+F3
New
as name write for instance: UniqEmpName
and as Refers to: =UNIQUE(EmployeeName)
OK

and then in Source of Data Validation use: =UniqEmpName

Assuming EmployeeName is a named range, you can simply use
Excel Formula:
=EmployeeName
for the DV as 365 automatically removes duplicates.
