I need a formula that will search the column headers for a user inputted text and then search that column for another user inputted text then it will give the result as name in another column

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
It would help if you would post a small sample, but maybe something like this?
Excel Workbook
ABCDEFG
1NameTest1Test2Test3SearchTest2
2N1some1What2Why7What6
3N2some2What3Why8
4N3some3What4Why9NameN5
5N4some4What5Why10
6N5some5What6Why11
7N6some6What7Why12
8N7some7What8Why13

I will try the formula you posted and adapt it to my spreadsheet. If it doesn't work I will have to post the actual spreadsheet as it can be quite confusing. Thanks for your quick reply

Hi
The last formula didn't quite work. What I require is I will have 2 input boxes. The first input box I would put in some text that will match the headers on another sheet. The second input box I would put in some text that will match some of the rows in the column that I first searched. Then the result would be matching rows in another column. It would be easier if I could post an attachment but I can't. Perhaps you know how I can do this.

You can try putting a border around part of your data and then use copy / paste to put in the forum. We just need a small sample and the answer you are looking for.
Will there be more than one answer to return (you stated match some rows)?

I am just trying a formula I got elsewhere that I think might work. I just have to adapt it to my spreadsheet. I will let you know. Thanks for all your help.
