Don't ask password when opening linked worksheet

Hi all,

- I keep all my information in "document 1" (protected with password)
- A second file "document 2" will be accessible for other people as well.

In document 2, I have linked a column to a column in document 1 (a column that does not contain private information).
Now, when the other people will open document 2, they'll have to enter my password to update the link.

Is there a simple solution to disable the password when opening document 2?

Many thanks in advance!

Rutger

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
Hi Rutger,

I don't think so.
Password protect always needs to open the workbook with the password.

But maybe this solution will work for you:
Using the VBA editor set the visibility of the protected sheet(s) to very hidden.
You will need to have at least 1 visible sheet left in the workbook; it can be a dummy, empty sheet.
Protect you project against viewing with a password (the same as now on your workbook, perhaps).
Remove the password from the workbook itself; only the project should be protected.
Save your new workbook "document 1".

Document 2 should be able to pull information from the very hidden sheet without any password.

If you need to modify the data in document 1 you will need to provide the password for the project to be able to set a very hidden sheet visible again.

Note: this is not as secure as your solution.
By changing the formulas in document 2, you can pull any information from document 1.
This would also be the case in your example, once the password was entered.

Perhaps you should reconsider your protection mechanism?
Copy the public column after each change to a third wb where document 2 can read it (and nothing more).

Succes,

Paul
