DocumentDB vs SQL db

My company works with a crm system that is not in-house. I have tried to convince the supplier to give me access to a “real-time” copy of the database. I would like to access all our information to work with in Excel/PowerPivot and in Power BI. I have 3 questions I would need some help with. I will only extract data i.e only SELECT statement.

DocumentDB
They are offering to give me access to a DocumentDB. This is new to me. I am not an IT person but are pretty good in SQL. Of course I will be limited to what they actually put in this DocumentDB. But that aside. Are a DocumentDB just as easy to work with as a SQL database? Can I connect to it in Excel/PowerPIvot or only in PowerBI?

Access to live-copy-db
They have given me 3 reasons why they don’t want to do this.
1. “The database schema is core business information that we don’t like to spread”
2. “We do not want to give support for this”
3. “The db changes sometimes”
Number 1 seems like nonsense to me. The table structure is not sensitive information.
Number 2 is fine by me.
Number 3 I don’t really know what this has to do with anything?

Recommendations on how I should proceed? I am very frustrated since out of the box reporting in the system is not sufficient.

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
