Different Paste Options when Copying Data

My hard drive crashed in work laptop crashed la week, so IT had to replace it and re-configure/re-download everything on my laptop.

The one thing that is still driving me bonkers is when I copy from one workbook to another, I randomly get 2 different paste options (boxes below). I didn't get this in the past, so I have to assume it's a specific setting I'm not aware of.

Can anyone help?

This first box is what I am accustomed to in the past and prefer to seeing all the time....I use tons of key-stroke shortcuts, and this is what I am used to and is faster for me.

This box below is what I now get about 50% of the time...don't like it all. I've tried determining what specific occasions this option shows up, but I don't see any patterns.

Are both workbooks open in the same instance of excel?

I just came across this being a big issue online with Excel users....any idea on the fix...to open attachments into the same instance of Excel as my other open files?

Excel Facts

Formula for Yesterday
Name Manager, New Name. Yesterday =TODAY()-1. OK. Then, use =YESTERDAY in any cell. Tomorrow could be =TODAY()+1.
I have no knowledge of this issue.
Is it possible this is an issue with certain releases. I am running 2016. You are running?

You may want to reach out to Microsoft and see if they have a workaround.

A quick search of Google offered up this suggestion: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...alog-box/662481a0-d3c0-4d7c-a0b7-021793674625

Yep, that link is my exact issue but provides no real solution...I love it the first part of the proposed workaround...."open the files more slowly" . . . . hahahahahahha! Unbelievable.

This seems to be the issue: https://excel.uservoice.com/forums/...ore-mdi-file-handling-open-all-files-in-one-w

Just weird that I did not have this issue before my hard drive crashed and now I have it....Maybe when IT downloaded my initial version, I accidentally got a version from MS that had my fix, but then they stripped it out and now my current version doesn't have it.

Hard to believe, but my only belief for now.

Did you not see this part of the solution? "or open them from within the Excel application instead of opening them from Windows explorer." Did you try this?

Yes, but that isn't a fix to the root issue.

After more research, the problem is I cannot open Excel files in the same instance of Excel as files that I already have opened.

When I'm attempting to copy and paste special from different instances of Excel, I will not get the primary Paste Special dialogue box, allowing me all the different option of being able to paste data.

So now, I have to open the file as I regularly do, save it somewhere, close it, then re-open it in the same instance of Excel. This is not practical for all the times we have to open attachments to copy/paste data out of. Also, I believe if my colleagues suddenly start have the same issues I have, I believe it will affect Macros that we have in place that opens email attachments and extracts data.
