Data Connection to Workbook on a secure LAN folder

So I am creating a "form" with excel that gets passed around to various project managers throughout my organization. One of the fields called "costs" I would like pre-filled for the project managers. I have this "costs" data in another workbook that is on a secure LAN folder, that gets updated throughout the month, and I would like the excel form to be able to pull this data in.

So I just linked to that excel workbook, and it appears as though users who do not have access to my LAN are able to see the data get pulled in.

But I think I am deceived, because I believe the link to be broken, since they dont have access, it appears as though the data is cached in the workbook some how, but I am not possible.

Is my goal of having this sensitive "costs" data stored in a secure location possible, without my consumers of this excel workbook having priveldge to this LAN location?

Best way to learn Power Query?
Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.
Just thinking out loud here, did you create the link from your account, and you have access to the secure LAN, it may have stored your details in the setup??? Just a guess.

Yea, I created the link, any idea how I could tell if it did store this? If that is the case, then I would hope and think that anyone could get at this data, right?

No idea where to look for this data, but try creating the link again from another pc/account that doesn't have access to the secure LAN. If this fails (which hopefully it should) you will have to look into permissions and access stuff, in vba, something the guru's could help you with. If you can still access the file from non-secure to the secure LAN, then I would have a look at how your LAN is set up.
