We are setting up a spreadsheet for our customer's credit card numbers. Once the number has been input excel always changes the last digit to zero actual data is a .txt file that is comma delimited when put into excel. This does not happen to the phone numbers or zip codes just the credit card #'s. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for a great forum.

Welcome to the board!

Right up my alley! When importing the file, make sure that you change the column with the CC#s to Text (instead of General).

Could you show an example of how the credit card # is laid out in the .txt? that might help solve the problem.

The CC#'s are displayed in the .txt file
like so 4011000000000000, then we just open the file in excel, names, address, phone # in there own columns as is the CC# which show up like this 7.451E+11, then we format the cell to show general. I did try the text format and it just moved the number to the left side of the cell.

OK got it, format it as a number instead with 0 decimal places. Tried it on mine and seems to work, was hoping you were getting the scientific notation (E+15).

Hope this helps

formatting data wont change the underlying value. so if excel has inported a rounded number, subsequently changing it to text wont help. you need to set the field up as text in advance / during the import.

Just a note guys
I did import the number from a text file and it does show as a scientific number so as long as the number format is used it treats it ok.
