Counting Results

I have a query that runs fine. i would like to have access return the count of the same results from the query. For example if "dog" shows up 15 times and "cat" shows up 9 times, i want to see that without having to count them individually. can you help?

Hi,

Say you have a query with one field (named Animal). Add the same field again to your query. Right click the first field and choose press the Totals button. Change the Total to Group By. In the second field choose Count.

The SQL should look something like this:-

SELECT TableName.Animal, Count(TableName.Animal) AS [Animal Count]
FROM TableName
GROUP BY TableName.Animal;


Does that do it?
