COUNTIF to compare 2 seperate columns of names both exact matches and similar matches

Hi

I'm using COUNTIF to compare a list of names that is imported from the web (Column C) to my own list of names (Column A) and counting these for matches in (Column B).

I'm using COUNTIF to count when there are matches in 2 separate columns as below:

Column A Column C
Actress Actress

This returns a 1 when there is a duplicate in both tables which is what i want as i will then use advanced filtering to list the matches on a different part of my sheet, which i'm ok with.

The problem i have is that one of the columns is imported from the web and displays the names slightly different as below:

Column A Column C
Actress Actress (IRE)

I need COUNTIF to also return a count when there are close matches too as although these look slightly different in the 2 lists they are actually the same thing in bot lists.

Is there a way to get COUNTIF to also return a 1 for both exact matches and close matches?

I do not know what columns need to compare.
There are columns ("B" & "H" in "2017-2019" sheet) that cleaned from the information in brackets and compared with countif (in column "C").

Sorry. I have been trying different things with this over the last week or two with no success. Basically in the tab 2017-2019 sheet I have imported a 4 column table from the Web. Columns A-D. I need to compare my list of names in column E th the names in Column A and then if any match I want them to be listed in another column on my sheet - maybe column F or G but the listed ones need to contain the info from columns A-D of each matching record

As I expected, the solution from post #12 is ready to solve your problem:

You only need to filter by values in column with "countif"=1 and you get what you want.
If you do not want use three new columns, I think, there is only one solution - VBA.
