I am trying to copy data within a cell, and all the formatting which includes the color of the cell, to a different spreadsheet.

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
Copy and paste works well for this.

I feel we are missing part of the question here. What is copy and paste not doing for you?

Thanks for replying promptly. I have tried copy and paste, and when i update one spreadsheet the other updates automatically. But i need to color to also update automatically.

Let me paint the picture clearly...I have several independent spreadsheets that i add data into. I then have another spreadsheet that consolidate the data but i need to data copied over as it appears on the independent spreadsheets, this includes any kind of formatting.

Show us how your doing this:
I then have another spreadsheet that consolidate the data but i need to data copied over as it appears on the independent spreadsheets, this includes any kind of formatting.

Is this happening with formulas or some sort of vba Script

I have 50 students. Each student has an assessments spreadsheet (individual files) with approximately 50 topics (1 topic per row). Data is added manually to each students spreadsheet.

I have another spreadsheet called Class Assessments which i would like to automatically update from information on each of the individual spreadsheets. I am not using formulas. I have tried copying from the individual spreadsheets and pasting it into the Class Assessment spreadsheet using 'Paste Link'. It transfers the data and updates when i make changes to the individual spreadsheets. However the cells that are being transferred also are colored on the individual spreadsheets, this is not being transferred.

The term "Spreadsheet" was used in the early 1980's by Excel and it referred to what we now call a "Workbook"

So are you saying each student has a seperate "Workbook" or a separate "Worksheet"

Wow. 50 Different Workbooks.
That is beyond my Knowledgebase.
But I'm sure someone else here at Mr. Excel will be able to help you.

Are you able to help if i said one student workbook with results. I can copy the cells from the student workbooks and link them in the Class Assessment work book. This issue i am facing is that the cells in the student workbook are colored and the colors are not transferring to the Class Assessment workbook.
