Conditional summing across multiple sheets

Hi,

I am trying to sum the same cell across multiple sheets, but want to incorporate a summing criteria. Ordinarily I would use '1:3'!C23 (for example) to sum the same cell (C23) across sheets 1 to 3.

However, say C23 on sheet 2 doesn't fit my criteria (such as cell C1 on all sheets being the name of a client), yet C23 on sheets 1 and 3 do - is it possible to use this type of formula and incorporate a criteria such that the result would be sum('1'!C23,'3'!C23)?

Thanks in advance,

UB

Would you care to describe what you need to do just using one sheet?

What I need to do is to sum one cell, for example, Apple & Eve that is found in 3-4 different sheets (tabs). I see the replies but I don't know what should I do with the symbols that are posted in it, such (" ' " & ). Im not sure if I need to replace them or put it in the formulas.
Im confused.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

Probably with this image is better to understand what I need to do. On recap sheet I have to get the total for each name on the left for the 4 different sheets (queens, bronx,Brooklyn, nyc)
Im having so much trouble in figuring this out.

These exhibits require retyping. Just post an Excel readable sample from QUEENS and pretend that we have only this sheet and state what must be presented on RECAP.

All sheets have the same products on the left (A). Recap sheet is to get all summary from all sheets for the same name and by month.

I hope this helps

All that still requires retyping... That said:

In A1:D1 of RECAP enter one by one the relevant sheet names as shown below:

QUEENS
BRONX
BROOKLYN
NYC

In B3 enter, copy across, and down:

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIFS(INDIRECT("'"&$A$1:$D$1&"'!"&SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(CELL("address",($B$1,B:B)),"$B$1,",""),"$","")),INDIRECT("'"&$A$1:$D$1&"'!A:A"),$A3))
