Conditional formatting =IsFormula will not format cells

I have a conditional formatting rule in my excel spreadsheet that says: =ISFORMULA(A1) and it will not format cells with a formula. Does anyone know why this would be happening?

I even tried opening a blank excel worksheet and putting random numbers and formulas in cells and then added the =ISFORMULA(A1) conditional format and it won't format cells with formulas so I know it isn't just my original spreadsheet.

Please help!

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
ISFORMULA isn't a built in function that I'm aware of.
At least not in XL2010.

You'd have to create a custom function in VBA for that function.

Highlight the column header (which should be text) and all cells within that column. Then Apply the conditional format formula =ISFORMULA (A1).
All formula cells should be colored.

I am still not getting any formula cells to color. When I go to the conditional formatting rules manager I see Rule:
Formula: = ISFORMULA(A1)
Format: Fill Green
Applies to: =$1:$1048576

I put a simple formula in cell C1 that says =A1*B1 and it is not highlighting that cell

It is working for me but on a much smaller data set.

Can you try on a couple of rows only?
Also, what version of Excel are you using? I am using 13.

I have tried applying the format to the entire sheet and just to cells A1:C3 and it doesn't work either way. This used to work for me so I'm stumped trying to figure out what I may have done that caused this functionality to quit working entirely. All other basic conditional formatting seems to work without any trouble.

Do you have any 'Other' Conditional formats that may be overriding this one?
Which version of XL are you using?

I am using Excel 2013. I went ahead and cleared rules from the entire sheet and added the =isformula rule over again and it didn't help. Is there another way to check for conditional formats that may be in use that I don't realize? Also my rule set-up matches the above example exactly and it is not highlighting the formula cells at all.
