Conditional Formatting Is changing font size - but it is also greyed out

Hi Everyone:

I have a spreadsheet with conditional formatting on it that changes the font color if one cell does not match the contents of another.
Both cells are formatted for Calibri, 12pt. The sheet is loaded with data from a web app. The cells that do not match ARE changing color. But the font size is also changing. When I look at the rule for conditional formatting, the font Calibri is highlighted and the font size of 10 is highlighted. But both of those options are also greyed out so they cannot be changed.

If I put the cursor on the cell, the Home tab in the Ribbon shows Calibri, 12 pt. But if I highlight the text in the cell, the pop-up formatter shows Calibri, 10 pt.

How can that be possible? It is well documented that conditional formatting cannot change the font or font size. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks for the file.
I'm not sure what is happening, but I suspect it's something to do with the web app.
Normally when you set/modify CF the font & font size are not highlighted, but yours are & the font says Calibri (body) which sounds like it could be a style setting.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Conditional Formatting cannot do what you want, because it is meant to only give the appearance format changes, not really change the properties of cells.
You'll need VBA

Sandy666: I am not trying to change the size, but that is what it is doing. I actually want only the color to change.

Fluff: Thank you very much for looking at the file. Strange, eh? I will check with the web app developer again to verify that he is not performing any formatting on his end.

Sandy666:

Yes, basically. The items need to be centered, but I have my original template file (in my shared folder - link above) that has the proper CF formatting already. My web app developer loads raw data into this excel file. Or am I missing something you are implying? Not sure exactly what you mean when you say "you will need clean format from web first."

I selected columns with CF
then Clear - Clear formats
then set CF again
then set the rest, font size, aligning, wrap, borders (similar to yours but as I can see - not exactly the same :) )

Hi Sandy666:

I tried what you said. No joy. My solution was to remove all the CF and then put a macro in the Workbooks_Open routine that would check the values.
