Conditional Formating Rule question

Good morning/afternoon!

I am attempting to use to create a Condition Formatting Rule in which if a particular cell has a zero, the following 3 or 4 cells populate with a N/A.

When I create the new rule under use a formula to determine which cells to format, I highlight the 3 or 4 cells and put the formula (example) =if(DN6=0, N/A), but it doesn't seem to work.

I take it I am misunderstanding the rule?

Just in case it comes up. The 3 or 4 cells I am trying to use this rule for might have other values manually typed/overwritten, otherwise I would just put the formula and lock the cells.

Thanks for all help in advance. :)

Good afternoon,
Not exactly what conditional formatting was supposed to do, but if you have excel 2010 or greater, you could put in a conditional format formula =DN6=0 and set the number format to be "N/A";"N/A";"N/A";"N/A" ... Then if cell DN6 was 0 (or blank), the cell would show N/A unless it was empty... if it was empty, then it would show empty...

Good luck,

CN.

If the cell is EMPTY, it won't put N/A there... if the cell has anything in it, it should show N/A... This is assuming you added the format

I think we must be miscommunicating. The cells do not put ANYTHING when I put the formula using the condition formatting under the HOME tab. Doesn't matter if the trigger cell it is EMPTY or has a 0 or has anything.

Ok... lets back up... edit the rule...
In the formula bar, is it =DN6=0?
Click on the format button... Then click on the Number Tab then click Custom on the right...
In the "Type" formula bar, did you put "N/A";"N/A";"N/A";"N/A" ?

Conditional formatting CANNOT and Will Not put a value into the cells.
It's only purpose is to apply a format (cell color, font, borders etc) to the cells based on the provided condition(s).

If you want to put a VALUE into those cells, you'll need a regular formula in the cell, not conditional formatting.
