Hi - is there anyway of changing the background colours of a cell if a certain word appears in the cell, ie South (Yellow background) North (red background)
You can use Conditional Formatting for that.
Just select the cells to be included in this consideration, go to "Conditional Formatting" and select the "Format only cells that contain" rule and fill it put like shown below:
