Cannot Select Cells

Sometime I open several workbooks and then I cannot select any cells as it appears to be frozen. I then close the workbooks and close Excel and reopen and then I can work on any of the cells


I would like to know how to overcome this. I have 16MB of ram and am using office 2016 64 Bit
 

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
