bring back first date based on month

In cell A1 I have the month (January) In A2 I would like to bring back the first day of cell A1 eg ' 01/01/2011'

Is this possible?

It is showing it is false so it is not a number but it was giving me 2001 for the year)

Glad you got it working.
But if my suggestion was returning the year 2001, this indicates a something is very wrong.
Because it definately should not.

Check your computer's date.

Never Mind....
It's likely because of UK Dates.
