Best application for keeping league dart stats

Good day

I have been working on this excel workbook to keep track of my American legion dart league. It has been a few years and looking for someone in my league to take it over. This has multiple macros (most come for this forums help) and formula that need simple adjustments based on the week we are in. My question, is there a better application or something that can be used to mimic the things excel does…

Not sure where to begin with what my sheet does right now. This might be a long thread. Basically, I keep track of points, games played, average, wins loses and ties, turkeys (6pts in one inning) high game, low game, high triple and low triple. I can go one but I am sure you get the point . Let me know if using a excel form or a access database ( I couldn’t figure out how to add a function). Thanks for your time and I’m ready for questions. Hopefully this is received well. Not sure who else to ask.

IMO, if the job is to relate data, a database is where you go. If you want to slice/dice/chart numbers you use Excel.
I've been working in both, on and off, for 25 years or more and I would never (not now at least) try to manage any kind of sports league in Excel, but then I have no experience in doing that. It seems to me that such a venture is all about relational data, so use a database. However, I have the luxury of knowing Access fairly well and am probably biased. Take my word for it - to create a good db involves a significant learning curve, and anyone coming from Excel to Access usually is hampered by Excelitis. So unless you're handing this over to an experienced db person it might be better to stick with what you have.

Thank you for the reply. I worked with access a bit, but that was a fully functional DB. looking at a brand new one is like looking up a 100ft well.

i can provide my Workbook, if you want to take a look and see if the end results are something you duplicate... more importantly the data input is easy for the next guy or girl to take over

You can post it somewhere if you like and I'll peruse it, but if I don't understand what I'm looking at I won't be able to provide much in the way of guidance. I've never belonged to any sports league that I had to worry about stats. If your end goal is that you need to see a lot of totals, counts, averages, comparisons, you might be better off sticking with Excel since you already know that. Then there is the ability to share with Google sheets (for now, I guess) and/or probably more people have Excel than Access - not sure if that is a barrier or not for you. Keep in mind that I said if the one who will take over is clueless about Access then you might be handing them a tool that they can't sharpen. Not trying to sway you one way or the other. If you have an interest in learning Access and can build something that won't need a lot of tweaking (because you do it right from the start) then perhaps passing it off in the future won't be a problem. Maybe Google something like
relational database schema for "darts" league
and see what you can find. Perhaps just others making inquiries, perhaps you'll even find a template.

Yes. Already looking that up. I know this is an excel page, but i can build and load all the data in access then post something to the access forum. Building tables in design mode seems to make more sense in my minde.

Not if you don't have a GOOD grasp of db normalization and entity/attribute relationships. Even seasoned developers will plot out table design and relationships on paper with pencil (and make sure they have an eraser at hand!). I like to use the kind of paper that you wrap things in when you're packing your household stuff for a move. Loading all the data in your tables right of the bat could turn out to be a mistake.

yeah I will need to take it slow. Too many varyations that i need to consider right now. I will get some data input to be able to test it.
