Automatic Shut off Grrrrrrrr!

All I have to say is make sure you have everything important on the hard drive is backed up. A few years ago, my computer started acting a little funny, and a few days later, the whole hard drive fried. Nothing was recoverable, everything was lost. Lost a couple thousand pictures and emails.

It was my home computer, so I didn't have any Network backups. Bought a new hard drive AND an external drive to do periodic backups now.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
I have a Dell Laptop which is about 4 years old now, it switches itself off occassionally. I really should have it looked at but having already replaced it, I just haven't gotten around to it. My own personal diagnosis is that it is an overheating issue...I think the internal fan is on the blink (which, being a Dell, appears to be impossible to get to despite removing every screw on the machine!!).

The symptoms you describe definately sound similar to what I have experienced, so I would agree with other opinion here that it's an overheat issue.

I bought a can of stuff and blew out the inside [after I had to be shown how do get the panel off. Wouldn't you think they'd provide some instructions?] And it's running now, so I'll see if it winks off. I'm not holding out to much hope that it won't.

Thanks for all the comments & suggestions.
