Recently both Auto Syntax Checking (the offending line goes red) and error messages (the offending line is highlighted yellow and the error type is reported) stopped working. As far as I know I did not do anything that might affect that.

The checkbox for Auto Syntax Checking is checked. Regarding error messaging, I tried Break on All Errors and Break on Unhandled Errors. I even (grasping at straws) added On Error Goto 0 to code, which, needless to say, did nothing for me.

What dumb thing did I do to/not do to affect this? What might I try?

I wish that I understood what caused that -- it seems to happen now and ten -- but for now...I restarted Excel and it works.
