Hello all,
I'm just trying to add some text to todays date,, just can't get it :-(

I have:
Code:
=TEXT,Today, The Day & Date Is:-"TODAY(dddd/dd/mm/yyyy)

I'm not sure what is wrong?? Can't be far off?
Any Ideas Please,,,
It's meant to say;
Today, The Day & Date Is:- Monday 13th February 2012

I hope someone can advise.

Many Thanks
john C

As a note,,
I havetried using the same condition for 2 sheets,, I couldn't get the formula to stick.
Image 1,, formula I wanted (Tried)
Image 2,, it kept reverting back to the original formula when I clicked apply :-(

Still ,, it was a nice thought,,,
Maybe I done it wrong?

Maybe you can't have the same condition for 2 sheets?

Here's the screenshots;

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
As a note,,
I just had to google "Ordinals" :-(

I need to refresh on the word interger as well,, sorry :-(

No, you can't do it like that for different sheets.

You have to set the formatting for each seperate area on its own. So that would mean entering new formulas but at least you can copy them and just change the cells references.

Many thanks for your reply T.Valko.
I thought as much... would have been good if excel did allow you to apply conditioning to more than 1 sheet.

I've done as you've said, & I've implemented the formulas/conditions for each individual sheet.
Great stuff.

Many thanks again.

I've never heard of the word ordinal before, & your suggestion for how to get the "th"/"rd" etc is a really nice feature.

Again.
Many thanks for your time, & for sticking with me on it,
I did "get it" in the end ;-)

All the best T.Valko

PS,, just to add,,, I think this is the 1st time ever I've used the quote (In brackets) as well as a reply,,,
makes some sense to start using this feature in replying to posts,, another 1st!! :-)

Just to add,
I think that finalizes this thread,,
Everything is great now.
I was thinking still of adding Text in front of the date, IE "Today Is",,,
But to be honest, I'm really happy now with how it's come out with T.Valkos suggestion with ordinals/conditional formatting.
So,, job done.
Many thanks for everyone's help again.
All the best
(I Got it in the end) :-)

First off, thank you soo much @T. Valko for taking the time to put this in here for anyone else to use.
I noticed something that shortens it up just a little bit, and I wanted to share it.

Here's the process step by step. ...

Select a cell, say cell A3
Right click>Format cells
Select Custom
In the little box under Type, enter this format code:

mmm d"st" yyyy

OK

Repeat the process for the other format codes:

mmm d"nd" yyyy
mmm d"rd" yyyy
mmm d"th" yyyy

Now, let's apply this formatting to a cell. ...

Note: at this point, you just applied the ("th") format as the cell's default.
One thing this means is, if the "st" or "nd" or "rd" conditional formatting rules do not apply (or have not been created yet), then the cell will show with "th" in it. Which means you do not actually need a "th" conditional formatting rule.

Also,
While implementing this in multiple cells, I ran into a small problem I also wanna share for others.
My upper-most left-most date cell just HAPPENED to be cell A3 (very convenient as I did not have to edit the formulas). Unfortunately, the last cell I selected was the lowest, right-most date cell. The result was that the correct format for the first date cell (the one used in the conditional formatting formula) was being applied to the last date cell (the "selected" cell out of the 8 cells that I'd used [ctrl]+[left-click] on) and none of the others were changing at all.

The answer was to re-select all 8 cells, then press [tab] a few times until the "one selected" cell was the one whose name I intended to use in the conditional formatting formula, then edit all 3 formulas and replace the cell name that was there (in my case, "XEY1048562") with the correct cell name (in my case, "A3").
