I have an mdb I created in Access 2003, but needs to be put on a machine that uses Access 97. I have '03 and '97 installed on my machine. But, when I try to open the '03 in Access 97, I get an unrecognized format error. Does anyone have any idea how I can create an Access 97 parallel of my 2003 mdb without recreating it?

Oh, and 'yes,' I have already tried to import the elements into a new 97 mdb.

Thanks!

Chris.

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
Hi,

You need to convert the database using Access 2003 to 97 Format. Tools, Database Utilities, Convert Database, To Access 97 Format.

If you're going to do that, and you're sharing with other users who want to use the same data, do this:

1. Split the database into front end and back end if you haven't already done so
2. Convert both the front end and the back end to Access 97
3. Link both front ends to the Access 97 version of the back end. Access 2003 will happily read and write to back end databases in earlier formats, but if you need to make changes to the structure (New tables / fields / field definitions), you will need to directly open the back end in Access 97 and make your changes, then re-link if you have added any tables.
