Afternoon all,

I am looking for something that will allow me to get a close match using a sort function.
It will work like this.

There would be an input cell required.
There will always be 8 character letters.
The character letter database will always be in a random order consisting of P M Z
There will be a ref number next to the character letter,in next column.
There will be 25 codes but as they are used will become 24,23,22 etc so allow for this.

Example,
PMZZPMMZ ref 1
MMMPPZPM ref 2
MPMZPMZM ref 3

I would enter a code into the search field,press a button & the code should sort the database letters A-Z & left to right.

The reason for this request is that i have some items of which are marked randomly like PMZPPMZZ etc etc, when you enter the code in the search filed i would like to be told which item in my database is a close match for me,ie ref 3.

This will save me time then looking at each item for a close match.

Does this seem possible or can you advise otherwise.

Many thanks.

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Just had a think about this.
Should the letters be an issue we can number them to make it easier so the sort would work like this.
P = 1
M = 2
Z = 3

So we enter 12311223 as opposed PMZPPMMZ in the search field.
