I want cell J25 to count following cells as 1, regardless what number is in the cell.

I8:R8
I11:R11
I14:R14
I17:R17
I20:R20

MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
Not too sure what you mean... maybe J25 =COUNT(I8:R8,I11:R11,I14:R14,I17:R17,I20:R20) ?

Both COUNTA and COUNT work, but some of my cells total "0". I don't want to count those cells.

Sorry, I forgot to include that part.
