I'm setting up my budgeting spreadsheet. I want the pie chart to show how much I spend on each thing (food, bills, socialising etc). At the moment it shows each 'food' etc instance as a separate part of the pie chart rather than their collective cost. It also shows empty items on the key. How can I fix this?

If you know of a good template doing what I want available I'm welcome to hear about it!

Hi and welcome to the MrExcel Message Board.

I think you need to try a PivotChart.

First select the data in columns D to F.
Then go to the Insert menu then look for the Charts section then select PivotChart.

Drag the Group field into the Rows section.
Drag the Out field into the Values section.
Click on the dropdown for Count of Out in the Values section and select: Value field settings ...
Then choose Sum to make Excel sum the values.

Finally, right-click the chart and select Change chart type.
Make it a Pie chart.

I hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply!

I think my menus are slightly different to yours, I must be running a different version of excel to you. I managed to get it to work though. Thanks so much for your help!
